Job Description:
The Operations Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating all shop, Maintenance and Shipping activities to obtain optimum efficiency, safety, quality and timely implementation of work. Also, this position is ultimately responsible for the overall administration of the shop labor force.
Essential Functions:
Through subordinate personnel, oversees and directs the day-to-day shop operations to ensure appropriate personnel, equipment, budget and schedule are met. Coordinates activities to affect operational efficiency and economy.
Ensures all company, department, safety and operating policies and practices are followed. Responds to questions and interprets policies, as required.
Resolves operational problems and difficulties, as they arise.
Analyzes procedures and equipment needs to implement most efficient means of handling workload.
Both directly and indirectly through subordinate supervisors, responsible for the hiring, directing, performance reviews, discipline, and termination of subordinate personnel.
Assists with the implementation of safety training and orientation programs.
Ensures all shop personnel comply with procedures, safety program requirements, work rules, etc. Documents all violations and recommends corrective action, as required.
Directs and participates in staffing activities of the shop labor force, including applicants, new hires, transfers/promotions, and terminations.
Ensures efficient use of materials and equipment.
Tracks and maintains state and city certifications.
Updates welding papers and procedures.
Reviews and signs all safe work plans; promotes a safe working environment for all employees.
Performs additional responsibilities, as directed.
Qualifications:
7
years experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment; 2
years' previous management experience.
Excellent working knowledge of all aspects of fabrication, including technology, equipment, and methods.
Excellent working knowledge of various fabrication-related disciplines, including cost control, scheduling, safety regulations, and engineering drawings.
Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to communicate with customers, shop employees, engineers, and project managers.
Ability to read, analyze, and interprets technical information such as codes (ASME, API, AWWA, AWS), specifications, drawings, and reports.
Demonstrated skill in planning, organizing and staffing.
Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and various scheduling or fabrication management software.
PHYSICAL/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position may require travel and overtime.
